Premiere: Jockstrap create hauntingly beautiful vision of intimacy in ‘Charlotte’
Jockstrap are the London-based alternative electronic pop duo channelling PC Music-esque production whilst remaining true to their complex classical routes.
Made up of Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye, the pair met at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2016, and formed Jockstrap a year later, premiering their debut track ‘I Want Another Affair’ last December.
The pairs collaboration is unique, and whilst Skye, who produces the tracks, creates a darker, more distorted intense sound - utilising the likes of an analogue tape recorder - Ellery’s vocals are bright, effortless, soulful, and at times manipulated. Influenced by the likes of Plath and Rossetti, her lyrics are refreshingly honest. Ultimately, the pair's collaboration can be described simply as Old Hollywood meets Habbo Hotel.
Directed by Enid Gunn, the video for new track ‘Charlotte’ is a simple yet well executed representation of the song itself, subtly exploring intimacy. Black out screens and dark filtered images punctuate the song, visually mimicking its at times erratic nature. Jockstrap’s sound is one that is full of apt juxtapositions, bright synths and jazz influences.
Jockstrap play their first live show as a four-piece at The Old Blue Last on the 17 March as
part of Terrible Night #5. It isn’t one worth missing!
