Festival season is just around the corner, kicking off with one of the country's best inner-city festivals for new music, The Great Escape, next month.

The Great Escape takes place in Brighton every May, bringing with it some of the UK's - and the world's - most exciting emerging acts. For one weekend a year, Brighton transforms into a music industry smorgasbord, littered with musicians, A&R's, journalists, and other industry-types alike.

With the seasonal introduction of festival line-ups, however, comes the inevitable discussion of line-up equality. Last year, it was discovered that 80% of festival headliners were male, and although it may seem like a pretty easy task to ensure equal representation, festivals just aren't taking note - bar The Great Escape.

The Great Escape has not only been attractive for showcasing some of the industry's most hyped acts, but for including near-equal representation of genres, races, and genders of acts. This year's line-up is their best yet in our eyes, with what appears to be a 50/50 line-up, bringing with it some of our favourite emerging female and non-binary artists.

Some acts we're particularly excited for this year are: Anna Calvi, Another Sky, Big Jonie, Biig Piig, Body Type, CHINCHILLA, Confidence Man, Chai, Du Blonde, Georgia, Julia Bardo, Little Simz, Los Bitchos, Marged, Millie Turner, Pixx, Porridge Radio, Self Esteem, Sink Ya Teeth, and The Van T's - Spotify playlist below.
